History of the department

On the 1st of September, 2015 the Department of Ambulatory Pediatrics had its 10th anniversary. It was a successor of the Department of Pediatric Diseases, founded at Belarusian Institute of Advanced Medical Training in 1945 and which afterwards was reorganized into the Department of Pediatrics-1 and later into the Department of Outpatient Pediatrics. The founder of the Department of Pediatric Diseases was professor A.S.Levin, a prominent pediatrician of Belarus. Then the Department of Pediatrics - 1 was headed by professors R.E.Mazo, L.G.Kozharskaya, I.V.Vasilevsky. From the time of foundation of the Department of Ambulatory Pediatrics it has been heading by professor V.F.Zhernosek, Doctor of Medical Sciences.

Clinical base of the department

Clinical base of the department is healthcare establishment «Minsk Regional Pediatric Clinical Hospital» is an only multidisciplinary pediatric clinical hospital in Minsk region.

There is an Advisory Clinic at Minsk Regional Pediatric Clinical Hospital. It renders highly qualified consultation medical care to children from Minsk region on 15 specialties, including the following ones: pediatrics, cardiology, endocrinology, immunology, allergology, gastroenterology, nephrology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, dentistry, surgery, audiology, psychotherapy, logopedics. The Advisory Center has the following boards: regional board of immunoprevention, resuscitation and diagnostic center for patients with central nervous system diseases, medical consultative board. There are special rooms for inpatient observation and hospital stay for complicated patients at the center.

Minsk Regional Pediatric Clinical Hospital has 600 beds and the following divisions: admission division, division of infectious diseases for newborns, division of infectious diseases for children above 1 year old, pediatric division № 1 (for cardiological patients), division of anesthesiology and resuscitation, pediatric division № 2 (for nephrological patients), pediatric division № 3 (for children with gastroenterological, allergic, endocrinologic diseases), pediatric division № 4 (for pulmonology patients), surgery pediatric division, dentistry division for children, otorhinolaryngology division for children, ophthalmology division for children, neurology division №1, neurology division №2, division of medical rehabilitation, clinical and diagnostic laboratory, division of functional diagnostics, roentgen division, division of ultrasound diagnostics, magneto-resonance tomography room, computer tomography room.

There is Republican Pediatric Center of Allergology functioning at the hospital (head – professor V.F. Zhernosek), Republican Center of Pediatric Osteoporosis (head – associate professor A.S. Pochkailo).


Academic work of the department

The department holds advanced postgraduate training courses on different units of pediatrics, retraining in pediatrics, PhD courses and training at clinical residency.

The department has formed directions of postgraduate training of pediatricians of the Republic of Belarus on the most priority fields of ambulatory pediatrics: primary, secondary and tertiary disease prevention of children, national pharmaceutical products in prevention and treatment of diseases in children, modern technologies in pharmacotherapy and pharmacological treatment of the main diseases of children and teenagers, treatment of children in accordance with national and international protocols, emergency care in ambulatory pediatrics, rehabilitation of children with acute and chronic diseases. A number of courses were organized by order of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Belarus.

The department is constantly improving methodology of postgraduate training. For this purpose different kinds of classes have been organized — review clinical lectures, problem lectures, complex lectures with participation of specialists from similar departments, different forms of seminars (discussions according to the methods of small groups, with the application of case technologies, with clinical discussions of thematic patients), seminars-conferences with the discussion of reports, clinical and anatomy conferences, work in polyclinics, in-patient facilities, acquaintance with the basics of rehabilitation at sanatorium establishment of Minsk region. Seminars on actual subdivisions of pediatrics are held with a huge interest and with the active participation of the trainees.

The department has a huge experience in training of physicians at clinical residency. Within the period of 10 years 51 clinical residents, including 14 foreign specialists (Georgia, Lebanon, Palestine, Nepal) have undergone training at the department. In 2016 there had been trained 16 clinical residents at the department. Clinical residents actively participate in scientific and research work of the department, publish scientific works, make scientific reports, participate at international cooperation, do courses abroad (Salzburg, Austria).


Scientific work of the department

Main scientific fields of the department are the following ones: allergology and immunology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, osteoporosis, healthy child, nutrition of a healthy and sick child, rehabilitation of children with main somatic diseases.

Specialists of the department perform 3 topics of scientific and research work on actual problems of pediatrics. 

For the last 10 years specialists of the department have defended 1 Doctoral and 5 Candidate’s theses on actual issues of pediatrics. 2 physicians have undergone postgraduate courses intramurally. Scientific staff is actively being prepared. At present specialists of the department perform Doctoral thesis.

Professor V.F. Zhernosek and specialists of the department have studied prevalence of allergic diseases in children of the Republic, have carried out researches on genetics of bronchial asthma, are developing study about endotypes and phenotypes of bronchial asthma; specialists also have been developing issues of etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations of main chronic allergic diseases and acute allergic reactions, drug allergy, approaches to treatment and rehabilitation of children and teenagers with chronic allergic diseases, emergency care at acute allergic reactions, issues of vaccinoprevention of children with allergic diseases.

Specialists of the department continue their researchers on osteoporosis in children and imperfect osteogenesis, rehabilitation of such patients.

Specialists of the department have carried out researches on pathogenesis of Нр-associated diseases of stomach and duodenum and developed nonendoscopic criteria of early prognosis of canker in children with pains and feeling of «discomfort» in epigastrium.

Specialists of the department have generalized an experience of treatment of children with acute and chronic bronchovascular diseases.

Structure of predisposition and way of primary prognosis» (A.P.Ruban, 2012), «Allergic diseases: study guide» (D.K.Novikov, P.D.Novikov, L.R.Vyhristenko, N.D.Titova, 2012», «Diagnostics and treatment of allergic diseases of children: reference book» (V.F.Zhernosek, T.P.Diubkova, 2013), «Syndrome of Stivens-Dzhonson – toxic epidermal necrolysis of children» (T.P.Diubkova, V.F.Zhernosek, 2013). In the framework of the program of international cooperation V.F.Zhernosek is a co-author of the Russian Scientific and Practical Program «RADAR. Allergic rhinitis of children: recommendations and algorithm at pediatric allergic rhinitis (scientific and practical program) (V.A.Revyakina, N.A. Daikhes, N.A. Gehhe etc., 2015).

Specialists of the department have published a manual «Basics of medical knowledge: protection of motherhood and childhood, infectious diseases» (T.P.Diubkova, V.F.Zhernosek, 2005) with a griff of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, took part in preparation of pediatrics study guides in English («The physical examination in children: study guide for foreign students» (Novicova V.I., Lisenko I.M., Titova N.D., 2009), «Pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment of diseases in the newborn: study guide for students of higher medical educational establishments» (Novikova V., Lysenko I., Zhuravleva L., Titova N., Mazuk O., 2013).

In 2013 specialists of the department published a reference book on the treatment of diseases in children with an edition of 1000 copies (Treatment of diseases in children: reference book/ V.F.Zhernosek [etc.]; edited by V.F. Zhernosek. – Misnk: Адукацыя i выхаванне, 2013. – 272 pages), which has become a handbook for Belarusian pediatricians.

Totally, specialists of the department have published 16 books.

A huge attention is paid to the implementation of scientific research results into the practice of healthcare. For the last 10 years specialists of the department have developed instructions on the topics: training of patients suffered from atopic dermatitis at asthma(allergic) schools of the Republic (V.F.Zhernosek, M.E.Novikova, 2005); prenosological diagnostics of bronchial asthma (A.P.Ruban, V.N.Rostovtsev, I.V.Vasilevsky, 2007); on rehabilitation of school-aged children being sick for a long time, living territories contaminated by radionuclides, in conditions of pediatric rehabilitation and recreation centers (V.F.Zhernosek etc., 2009); on application of bisphosphonates in the treatment of children with imperfect osteogenesis (A.S.Pichkailo, I.V.Naumchik, V.F.Zhernosek etc,, 2014); on selection of broncholytic drug preparation for children of school age with bronchial asthma (I.A.Nenartovich, V.F.Zhernosek, 2014).


Teaching and Guiding Work

Specialists of the department have published 37 guidance manuals on different problems of pediatrics. Among them, for the first time in Belarus, there have been published original guidance manuals «Anaphylaxis in children» (T.P.Diubkova, V.F.Zhernosek), «Food allergy of children of the 1st year old» (V.F.Zhernosek, T.P.Diubkova), «Debrides in bronchi in children» (O.V.Popova), «Rehabilitation of children and teenagers with diseases of respiratory organs, digestive system organs, kidney, cardiovascular system and allergic diseases in the conditions of polyclinic» (V.F. Zhernosek and etc.), «Aspirin bronchial asthma of children» (V.F.Zhernosek, T.P.Diubkova), «Diagnostics and treatment of bone mass deficit and osteoporosis in children» (A.S.Pochkailo, V.F.Zhernosek, E.V.Rudenko), «Health assessment of healthy children under 3 years old» (V.F.Zhernosek etc.), «Health of teenager» (O.V.Popova, V.F.Zhernosek), «Genetical ichthyosis: classification, clinical manifestations, diagnostics, treatment» (V.F.Zhernosek, E.V.Lameko, A.S.Pochkailo), «Diseases of digestive organs of children» (V.F.Zhernosek, A.S.Pochkailo, T.P.Diubkova.), «Medicinal hypersensitivity» (A.P.Ruban)., «Allergic rhinitis of children» (V.F.Zhernosek), «Bronchial asthma in children» (I.A.Nenartovich, V.F.Zhernosek). Medical work of the department

Specialists of the department carry out a huge medical and consulting work at Minsk Regional Pediatric Clinical Hospital and other treatment and prevention establishments of Minsk region and Republic. Together with Minsk Regional Pediatric Clinical Hospital the department is organizational and methodological center of improvement of treatment and prevention work with children in Minsk region.

The department is actively implementing new methods of clinical and consulting work. It has taken the first place among department of BelMAPE on telemedical consultations in Minsk region.

Specialists of the department pay a special attention to the implementation of achievements of medical science into the practice of national pediatrics. Totally, 25 instructions, methodological recommendations, orders of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus have been prepared and published.

On the basis of performance in 2012 the Department of Ambulatory Pediatrics is accepted as best one at Pediatrics Faculty.

Establishments of higher education
