About the department

The Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology was founded in October, 2005 when the course of pediatric hematology and transfusiology was reorganized, being founded by professor Tatiana Ivanovna Kozaresova, who was head of this course. From the time of its foundation until 2011 the department was headed by professor Olga Vitalievna Aleinikova, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, from 2011 to 2015 Natalia Evgenievna Konoplya, an Associate Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, was head of the department, from 2015 to 2016 the department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, associate professor Galina Lvovna Kachan. Since November, 2016 Natalia Nikolaevna Klimkovich, an associate professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, has been heading the department. For the time of its functioning the department has gained a reputation of a perspective organization, where the training is held not only for physicians of the Republic of Belarus, but for physicians of many CIS countries. Clinical bases of the department are the following ones: State Establishment «Republican scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology» and State Establishment «Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Oncology and Medical Radiology».

The department carries out postgraduate training for physicians working at treatment and preventive establishments, for specialists working at scientific centers and educational establishments, holding advanced training courses and after being issued a diploma on the specialties «Hematology» and «Oncology». The department holds advanced training courses (40, 80 and 160 hours) on the issues of clinical hematology, oncology and immunology for pediatricians, oncologists, hematologists, intensivists, neonatologists, infectionists, general practitioners,    recreation therapists, laboratory diagnostics physicians, transplantologists, allergologists. Annually, the department holds 18 - 20 planned courses. In their academic work specialists of the department constantly apply their practical experience and scientific achievements in the field of clinical hematology, oncology and immunology.

If so agreed the department holds visiting seminars to regions of the Republic of Belarus and CIS countries.

The department provides training of physicians at clinical residency and holds postgraduate courses on hematology and oncology.

After completing courses and passing the exams specialists are issued diplomas, national certificate of advanced training.

Main fields of scientific work

  • Optimization of treatment methods of oncohematologic diseases and solid tumors
  • immunological reconstitution of children and teenagers after transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells
  • development and implementation of new complex treatment methods to cure malignant malformations of central nervous system and bone sarcoma in children
  • biological characteristics and pathophysiological mechanisms of myelodysplastic syndromes
  • development of new treatment methods to cure hemophilia in children (induction of immunological tolerance)
  • expert and rehabilitational diagnostics and technology of medical rehabilitation at blood diseases in children.


Specialists of the department have published more than 900 scientific and academic works: more than 200 were written by head of the department, N.N.Klimkovich, more than 350 of works were written by professor T.I.Kozaresova, more than 100 were written by professor N.E.Konoplya, more than 200 were written by professor N.N.Antonenkova, more than 80 were written by L.I.Volkova, associate professor, more than 80 works were written by G.L.Kachan, an associate professor.

Perspectives of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology

Teaching the basics of clinical hematology and oncology to pediatricians working at different treatment and preventive establishment of Belarus aiming at early diagnostics of blood diseases and oncology diseases of children; improvement of the effectiveness of dispensary observation and prevention of this pathology, advanced training courses held for physicians working at different higher medical establishments of the Republic of Belarus, participation in joint scientific and research programs together with Republican scientific and practical centers – Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology Center, «Mother and Child» etc., joint participation in state programs concerning the development of diagnostic and treatment technologies.
