Pediatrics Faculty is a subdivision of the Academy which includes 13 departments:
The Pediatrics Faculty was opened because of the necessity of further improvement of medical care rendered for children and teenagers, development of special care in accordance with modern requirements.
It is determined by the growth of many nosological forms of pathology in children, the need in curriculum, consultation and treatment management, the necessity in setting of more close interaction between pediatric departments of other medical Universities in Belarus and foreign ones.
At present the Pediatrics Faculty consists of 14 departments.
A well-planned structure of the Faculty with all its departments helps to use multidisciplinary approach towards child's health formation.
Today the Pediatrics Faculty of the Academy is:
An integrated coordination resource center of retraining and professional development for all specialists in pediatrics;
Center of organizational-methodological guidance and treatment-and-consultation care for children’s population, further improvement of treatment and prophylactic work, development of special medical care for children and teenagers;
the teaching staff of the Pediatrics Faculty provides teaching and treatment and consultation care from the perspective of the defense of child's rights from the moment of impregnation and within the whole period of life.
In the structure of demographic losses in the country the whole child and maternal mortality is less than 1% and the obvious achievement, including of the departments of pediatric faculty, is the low infant mortality rate - 3.4 ‰, and in Minsk region - 2.9 ‰.
Scientific direction in the work of the department of Pediatrics Faculty is the use of modern telecommunication technologies and integrative therapeutic methodologies in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of children and adolescents.
This issue is the subject of several scientific works and learning and teaching papers of the staff.
Necessary baggage of educational materials for practitioners on various sections of Pediatrics is accumulated.
The following modern technical training aids have been created:
electronic presentation of educational material, schemes of diagnostic algorithms and current therapy of pediatric diseases, case problems.
Some traditional issues being part of the Curriculum are presented in a new way, usage of Internet and other electronic innovations has expanded the possibilities in consulting, diagnostics and treatment of pediatric diseases.
The Faculty has been effectively training the scientific and teaching staff:
2 doctoral candidates, 1 postgraduate degree seeker, 21 postgraduate students and 128 clinical residents (43 foreign ones) attend the courses.
Scientific and research work of the Faculty is connected with more actual issues of practical healthcare.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Health work on the problems of rendering emergency care to the obstetric and gynecologic patients, cervix uteri pathologies, female sterility, endoscopic technologies, reproductive procedures.
The Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Resuscitation works on the questions of preoperative preparation and further intensive therapy and resuscitation of children in critical conditions.
The Department of Pediatric Neurology is evolved in the study of different aspects of epilepsy, epileptic syndromes and paroxysmal states in children, and also pathology of nervous system in newborns.
The Department of Neonatology and Medical Genetics holds researches in the field of intensive therapy and resuscitation of newborn in hypoxic states and optimization of genetic consultation and prophylaxis of syndromes of multiple congenital malformations of chromosomal and monogenic causation.
The Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology is working on optimization of treatment methods of oncohematologic diseases and solid tumors in children.
2 leading areas are of special attention in scientific and research work:
Development of modern diagnostic, treatment and prophylaxis methods in allergy diseases, problem of early diagnostics and prophylaxis of arterial hypertension in children, early forms of atherosclerosis and "metabolic syndrome" in children.
The Department of Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology is working on the development of new psychotherapeutic techniques, express treatment methods of behavioral and emotional disorders.
The Department of Pediatric Surgery is actively working on the questions of the up-to-date diagnostics and high-technology treatment of surgical diseases in children.
The main fields of work of the Department of Ambulatory Pediatrics are the following ones:
allergology, pulmonology, osteoporosis, cardiology, rehabilitation of children with the main somatic diseases.
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry is most occupied with the optimization of means and methods choosing to take exogenous prophylactic measures of periodontal diseases in children, and the questions of early orthodontic treatment of children with cleft lip and palate.
The mains area of scientific research at the Department of Physiotherapy and Balneology is the development of scientific bases and new techniques of physical therapy, and original apparatus for physical therapy.
The Department of Infectious Diseases and Pediatric Infections is involved in diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis of infectious pathology of child and adult population, diagnostics improvement, prognosis and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis in children; diagnostics and treatment of rotavirus and HIV in children.
Employees of the Department of Clinical Hematology and Blood Transfusion are conducting researches on actual issues of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
